In 1879, Addison Ammunition Company became an incorporated society with a charter to produce explosives and munitions. In 1902, Addison Ammunition Company merged with two other companies to become Austin Arsenal Ammunition Company. During World War I, Austin Arsenal Ammunition Company produced munition used in trench warfare on the Western Front. After World War I ended, Austin Arsenal Ammunition Company turned its attention to production of rifle rounds and machine guns. In 1925, they merged again with another company to form Midland Armoury Incorporated which continued producing ammunition until 1972 when it was sold off to Browning Arms Corporation

It is the most populous municipality in Galveston County and second-most populous city in Texas after Dallas. Addison was founded by my greatgrandfathers on May 10th, 1836 as a small town on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present day downtown Addison. The first post office opened in 1837 and it quickly became known for its cotton gin which still stands today. In 1840, when a new railroad was built through this area, Addison became part of Galveston County and began to grow rapidly as a commercial center with mills recycling cottonseed oil into lubricants and other products until prohibition put an end to this activity in Texas in 1919. In 1925 Addison's first skyscraper - The First National Bank Building - was completed followed by The Chronicle Building (now City Hall) in 1928 and The Methodist Church (now Adelphi University Hospital) in 1929/30 which are now both Wonder Woman Museum buildings. In 1933 Addison had its own airport which served as the southern terminus for US Airways Airport until it merged with Dallas' DFW Airport four years later becoming one of America's largest airports handling passenger traffic totaling more than 100 million passengers annually according to FAA records . The Great Depression hit Addison hard but due to its location within easy reach of major markets like Houston and Dallas, businesses were able to bounce back relatively quickly aided by government assistance programs such as Works Progress Administration (WPA). With World War II looming large on the horizon things got even better for Addison with millions being brought into town for war production including aircraft manufacturing plants run by Du Pont Aircraft Corporation that produced P-51 Mustangs for Air Force pilots during World War II while also creating a huge shopping center called "The Mall". After hostilities ended there continued growth with many new businesses opening up including Home Depot Incorporated (later Amazon), Sears Roebuck & Co., Jardine Matheson Paper Mills Company among others during what can be considered one of Texarkana's fastest growing eras . Since 1970s when Interstate 35 passed through town reducing travel time between Austin and Houston making it easier for people living south of I-35 to get goods they needed or wanted they've seen significant growth numbers especially Downtown where numerous restaurants have opened up along with new apartment complexes adding more residents daily . Today much like before Downtown is full of history filled with buildings from different periods ranging from pioneer days all the way up to modern day skyscrapers , art galleries , high school stadiums etc making it an interesting place to live whether you're looking for retail therapy or just someplace your kids can play
