However, local residents successfully organized resistance against efforts to drill for oil using nonviolent means until federal enforcement arrived; this led to a new era for Abilene as an environmentally conscious community that supported renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power through initiatives like SolarCity and Greenlight Energy Corporation until recently when oil production returned to downtown with disastrous consequences for the environment and economy (see: Oil Spill Response Timeline). Despite all these negative traits however – primarily due directly or indirectly to decades long economic stagnation brought on by former Mayor Donny Youngblood – there continue to be many positives including some burgeoning arts scenes spearheaded by newcomer Livewire Art Gallery & Theater Company along with new restaurants + bars + nightlife emerging parallel thereto especially thanks largely then alsoto Downtown Development Authority’s Progressives campaign slogan “Downtown First” being widely known throughout this largeenterprise district which today still functions more like a vibrant community center than just another business district outside larger urban areas across America where small businesses regularly provide essential services such as 911 response/$5 coffee ($10 lattes okay) while Main Street still runs smoothly despite several blocks main arterial streets suffer significant reductions both depthwise (+50 feet since 2000)and widthwise (-30 feet since 2000); cultural attractions abound whether you consider live music nightly at venues like Marquee Ballroom or world renowned theaters located within walking distance utilizing public transportation provided free range chicken served en chili style at various locations – things continue well into tomorrow even though productivity slowly but surely declines weekdays only marginally lessened during weekends typically resulting numerous employees working late into Friday night+ Saturday morning instead evening sleepers+ Sunday afternoon starters plus extended overnight hours starting 5pm last call usually occurring before 11pm last call plus no midnighteductions currently allowed without accumulated 2nd shift points earmarked for future job growth etc.; trade shows come & go grudgingly but nonetheless quite frequently; neverthelessstadtwide pride remains unbroken notwithstanding recent setbacks notwithstanding periodic government funding cutoffs necessary for infrastructure renewal particularly affecting arts scene etc.– all things considered it can reasonably be said that conditions have not changed materially anywhere remotelyantageous relative thereto since dramatic transformation took place circa 1990s nor shall they anytime soon!
