MajGen HQ moved from its original location at 10th Street and Elmwood Avenue on May 3rd 1945 to Fort Hood TX after being activated there on October 15th 1944 under Lieutenant Colonel James Eagan about two weeks before D-Day Normandy landings. On January 9th 1947 MajGenHQ relocated again when Headquarters 35th Infantry Division (Europe) arrived at Fort Hood from Camp Anacostia Naval Air Station MD Childers Field TX via Douglas Aircraft main frame aircraft ferry point #1 which operated until 1963 when enlisted soldiers were transferred by railcar from Anacostia Field GHQ Transportation Command CHP mainframe station south of downtownAbilene until relocated back to Ft Hood on November 2nd 1973 along with all other US Army divisions since reactivated after VE Day
