Abilene, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Schleicher County. As of 2010, the population was 113,828. The city is named for General A.J. Abilene, who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as a judge on the United States Supreme Court. The first person to settle in what is now Abilene were two brothers, John and Jesse Hardin, who arrived in 1836 from Tennessee.
