Additionally, numerous world leaders have visited or resided at The White House during their time as Prime Minister of Great Britain or Leader of Canada; including Winston Churchill (1910-1965) and Trudeau (1970-.2006).
The White House in Tennessee is a historic home and office located on the grounds of the federal government's Washington D.C. headquarters, within the city of Nashville. It was built as part of President Ulysses S. Grant's reconstruction project after the Civil War, and served as his official residence until 1877. The current structure was constructed between 1865 and 1867 by contractor General Hugh McCulloch, who also designed much of Nashville's municipal infrastructure at that time. In 1865, ConfederateGeneral Robert E. Lee occupied the White House during his restocking stop on Cumberland River before retreating to Petersburg, Virginia; only nine days later, he surrendered at Appomattox Court House to Union General James Longstreet. Following Reconstruction in America following the Civil War, President Ulysses S. Grant issued an executive order entitled "A Declaration of Constitutionality of Supreme Judicial Power" in December 1871 which granted judicial independence to all Federal Courts throughout America other than those under state jurisdiction (the Fourteenth Amendment had been added two years earlier). In October 1875, Grant sold his interest in the White House complex to Nicholas Biddle for $15 million dollars ($ in 2018 dollars). The new owner soon began extensive renovations which were completed by September 1886 without any major interruptions due to World War I; Biddle died in 1918 and was succeeded by his son-in-law Alfred Vail as president of Vanderbilt University.[1] In 1933–1934 Franklin D. Roosevelt Executive Order 6884 forced all white students out of Vanderbilt University because he felt their presence constituted a threat to American racial integration,[2] though this order was rescinded after protests from both sides[3][4][5][6][7] The current building remained unoccupied until its acquisition by the United States Government in 1934.[8] Upon its acquisition by the United States Government it became known as Historic Park #1
