Early's forces exceeded those of Ulysses S Grant so quickly that little damage or loss occurred; however many residents fled into hiding as violence erupted between both sides. About 150 residents remain unaccounted for after reported massacres took place throughout early February 1862 in Union City: most likely due to fear for their lives given what could have happened if they had been caught up in battle or captured by either side Union City experienced another outbreak of violence during Reconstruction following Reconstruction’s end in 1865 after Confederates surrendered at Appomattox Court House outside Richmond Virginia After Reconstruction ended there continued poverty which led to social unrest beginning with white flight began primarily because black farmers increased production for whites seeking food dollars not available before . In 1901 fires destroyed almost all but one block of downtown including much important historical furniture including some model homes which reverted back to pre-fire condition within three years this again caused lawlessness as businesses were looted then reoccupied by new occupants resulting ultimately more crime as business owners closed their businesses because they could no longer afford fire insurance

After years of growth and development, by 1840 Union City had become an incorporated town with a population of around 400 people. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell stationed his forces at nearby Knoxville in order to launch an attack on Fort Donelson. While attacking Fort Donelson, Confederate troops killed many innocent civilians in and around UnionCity. This event led to much resentment towards Confederate troops throughout the area and helped spur development within UnionCity during Reconstruction period. After Reconstruction ended in 1877,Union City experienced continued economic decline until World War II brought new life to the community due to military production plants that were located there during that time period. However, by 1951-1953 it had started to experience again declining fortunes due to shifting industry away fromTennessee Valley Authority (TVA) projects which were then being undertaken eastward into Alabama; consequently much investment dried up and overalleconomic decline ensued until becoming economically inactive by 1990s when TVA projects resumed westward into Tennessee proper through downtown Chattanooga annexation process without ever reaching downtown UnionCity . The once vibrant downtown core slowly lost its popularity over recent decades until being abandoned entirely following annexation by Chattanooga in 2004-2005; however some restoration has been done since then including renovation/restoration of old city hall which is now home to several small businesses including B & B Pizza
