Union City, Tennessee is known as the "Capital of the Confederacy" for its role in the Union army during the American Civil War. The city was founded by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his Confederate army in 1861, and served as a stronghold in what was known as the "War Between States." In 1865, Union City was sacked by Confederate forces and burned to the ground. The city's history is intertwined with that of firearms, which has been a central part of local culture for centuries. In 1862, Union City residents created a makeshift armory out of lumber and meat supplies they found lying around town. This early armory served as the base from which Confederate forces could produce firearms and ammunition. The armory also functioned as a training ground for local militia members. By 1863, Union City had become an important center for gun manufacturing within the Confederacy. The first handguns made in Union City were built using old cannons fragments found locals had collected during their war efforts. Over time, more handguns were produced at the armory using new techniques and materials sourced from outside of Union City. By 1864, Arsenal rifles were being produced using lead-lined barrels manufactured in nearby Chattanooga. Ammunition production also took off at this time thanks to advances in technology including vulcanization of rubberstocks to create stronger rounds (later replaced by metallic cartridges). In 1870, Arsenal Arms purchased land east of downtown from prominent citizen John Sayers to establish an additional rifle range and shooting venue called Sayers Rifle Range & Hunting Park (later renamed Pleasant Grove Resort). This range became one of America's most popular tourist destinations due to its wide variety of hunting opportunities available within easy driving distance of Union City limits. The park offered access to both rifle ranges (one operated by Arsenal Arms while another operated jointly by two other companies), swimming pools/water sports areas, picnic tables/grills, horseback riding trailsides etc., making it one Of America's leading outdoor recreation facilities during this period . In addition to providing access to these amenities through its own property boundaries rather than shared with other businesses or municipalities like Nashville or Memphis; Armory also successfully lobbied Congress into passing legislation authorizing them to manufacture Firearms on their own premises – thus becoming self-reliant on firearms manufacturing throughout much of Reconstruction era United States

The city has also become home to numerous high-end shops, including Neiman Marcus, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store. Many local businesses are credited with helping grow Union City into one of Tennessee's most vibrant urban communities during its early years - such as Jens Weisinger & Sons cigars (the first cigar company opened shop in Nashville), Harveys department store and Pritchett Brewing Company which still produces top-quality craft beers today).
