Union City, Tennessee is a small town located in the Smoky Mountains region of central Tennessee. The population was 7,562 at the 2010 census. It is one of the smaller towns in the Smoky Mountains and has a large concentration of optometry and optical fiber businesses. In 1839, Union City was founded by three men from nearby Chattanooga. The city grew rapidly, and in 1854 it incorporated as a town. In 1861, Union City became the capital of the Confederate States of America. The city was sacked by Union forces in 1865, and its residents were forced to flee. It re-emerged as a small town during the Reconstruction Era. In 1870, Union City annexed the neighboring town of Knoxville. That same year, Union City merged with neighboring Red Springs to form one large municipality.
Union City is a settlement in Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,379 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Union City is located on the Cumberland River and bordered by Union Springs to the north, Belknap Springs to the south, and Carthage to the west. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's forces were besieging Fort Donelson in present-day Nashville when they discovered that Confederate General Jubal Early had been escaping from prison with a small army. Pursued by Jackson's troops and Early's cavalry, Early was able to escape unharmed and return home before Jackson could pursue him. In retaliation for this event, Commodore John Dufresne ordered his ship "Arkansas" to bombard Union City with cannon fire on September 5th of that year (1814). This event is considered one of the first acts of violence against Native Americans in Tennessee. Union City grew up around agricultural production; early settlers were farmers who raised crops and manufactured goods for local markets. The community developed as a result of trade between Hardeman County residents and people living in other parts of Tennessee and Kentucky during Reconstruction era (1877-1927). During this time period many African Americans migrated from southern states into western Tennessee in order to find work opportunities during Reconstruction. Many new businesses were started in Union City as result of this migration which led to its nickname "The Birthplace Of Black America." During World War II many members of the local military service lived or worked in Union City; these individuals included both U.S.-American servicemen stationed abroad and Tennessean soldiers who served overseas within our own country. After World War II ended many jobs left Union City as companies went out of business or moved away because they found new markets for their products outside of Tennessee. However, some businesses did remain until they closed due to changing tastes or competition from other jurisdictions withinTennessee such as Birmingham or Memphis which had larger populations at that time than Union City

Union City was a small town in the Tennessee Valley region of the United States. It is located in Union County, just south of Chattanooga and north of Murfreesboro. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,059 people residing in Union City. The population had grown to 3,041 by 2006. The first inhabitants of what is now Union City were Native Americans who lived on the Muisca River about 12 miles (19 km) east of present-day Union City. They were driven out by white settlers in 1795 during the Northwest Ordinance threat made against any Indian settlement that did not give up their land to General James Wilkinson's army as part of a peace agreement after the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The town site was surveyed and platted in 1802 by Captain John Sevier as part of a grant from Governor William Robertson to Colonel James McMillan and twenty others for services rendered in suppressing Indian aggressions within Knox County during 1801-1802. The name "Union" was derived from a Cherokee word meaning " junction." In 1825, Andrew Johnson became President Ulysses S. Grant's Vice Presidential candidate on an anti-party ticket with Levi Coffin Jr., Sr., son-in-law and brother-in-law to Ulysses S. Grant; both men being natives of New York state but residents of Illinois at that time because their fathers had served in Congress as members from that state under George Washington's administration before moving westwardly to become White House officials under Abraham Lincoln upon his election as President on November 4th, 1809). Grants' running mate also happened to be his second cousin Samuel Tilden (1811–1885), son of Henry Clay Tilden (1783–1846). In spite thereof—Grant easily won re-election overTilden by nearly 2 million votes (59% – 41%) Despite this landslide victory Clement Attlee described it as a “terrible blunder” due largely to Grant’s poor campaigning skills which hurt him electorally when he ran for office again two years later against Tyler Anzalone [Anzalone would go on to serve twice more as Mayor Of Philadelphia]). In 1830 Union City had 1 store and 10 residents when it became part OF Chattanooga & its surroundings newly formed into Allegheny County
Union City is the oldest city in Tennessee and was founded in 1792 by General Armstrong. The city was named for the Union of America, which was a group of states that joined together tofighting against British rule. The first mayor of Union City was James Caldwell.
