In 1927, Tullahoma, Tennessee- then a small town of about 20,000 people- became the first city in the United States to install electric streetlights. The lights were powered by dynamo cords that circulated through the community's girders and wires. At the time, many residents believed that electricity would one day take over from oil as the primary source of lighting. The electrical grid in America was built primarily during World War II because of wartime needs for energy. As output increased from American factories and farms, however, reliability issues arose with regard to supplying homes and businesses with electricity. One solution was to build large power plants that could generate enough power to light entire areas without having to rely on local generators. However, this type of infrastructure was expensive and not practical in smaller towns or rural areas where there were limited resources available. Tullahoma's electric streetslight installation began in 1927 and continued until 1954; it is one of only a few U.S."streetlight installations" dating back more than 50 years! In 1954, the city replaced its dynamo cords with current conduit systems which continue to be used today!

The townspeople built up a strong local economy by making their own products and selling them through local businesses. In addition to their cotton products, the townspeople also manufactured items such as clock radios and jewelry.
Tullahoma is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. Tullahoma is known for its peach orchards, cotton plantations, and Pigeon Forge National Military Park. The first settlers in what is now Tullahoma were farmers who arrived in 1811 from Georgia. When the United States acquired Texas in 1836, General Sam Houston ordered all Texans to leave the state and form a new national government called United States of Texas. From this group of Texans emerged the nucleus of the later community of Tullahoma. By 1840, when Jackson Purchase land was divided among Ulysses S. Grant and other American presidents as part of the Treaty of Gadsden, Tullahoma counted twelve families as residents. In 1869 it had grown to eighty-eight people when Mr. John Cramer organized a Methodist church on one acre (0.40 hectare) near present day Second Street and Elmwood Avenue East with Wm Hatton as pastor; post office opened March 3rd 1870 In 1880 an increase in sales taxes led to some business development including stores and physician's offices along Third Street EAST from US 31W to US 131W then US 231W until 1930 when they moved out into their present location on Court Square During World War II there was great demand for cotton because during that time America needed fuel for her war effort In 1951 Drury & Company moving production operations to Birmingham made them one of only three white-owned businesses established west of 2nd street between Main Stn and Broadway After more than fifty years serviceProvidence left towngiving rise to a transient population numbering about 350 by 1980 but by 2010 there are over one thousand people living here permanently or temporarily

In 1836, a group of Englishmen led by Colonel Andrew Jackson established what is now known as the Jackson Purchase. This land included much of present-day Tullahoma County and parts of today's eastern Tennessee. The purchase marked an important turning point for the area and helped drive away Native Americans from their traditional lands.
