The first target shooting event in Tullahoma occurred on July 4, 1867, when a group of men from Knoxville shot ten guns at the Old Courthouse. This was an early form of target shooting that took place outdoors. shotgun powder was used back then and balls were made from nutshells or other small objects. In 1892, Colonel John W. Goode organized the Tullahoma Rifle Club and began using rifle ranges on his estate to host target shootings. These ranges became so popular that they were eventually leased to other organizations and continue to be used today. In 1922, the state legislature passed legislation authorizing the creation of gun clubs within each county in Tennessee and these clubs continue to operate today. Today, target shooting is a popular pastime in Tennessee and there are numerous locations around town where shooters can find suitable ground for ranged matches or outings. The first gun target in Tullahoma, Tennessee was a blacksmith's shop. The target was dedicated to the memory of Major General George Custer during the American Civil War. In 1871,General Nathan Bedford Forrest opened his plantation in Tullahoma and began shooting deer on his property. In 1892, Colonel John Halleck founded the Tennessee Rifle and Pistol Club at the nearby Red River Arsenal and began shooting targets there. In 1924, Tullahoma became one of the original towns in Jackson County when it was organized from part of Knoxville County. In 1932, Tullahoma became home to America's first air-raided spot airstrike using Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers against Nazi Germany as part of World War II Operation Market Garden.
Tullahoma is a small town in the far south-central corner of Tennessee. It has been called the "Gateway to Tennessee" because it is the only town on the route from Nashville, Tenn., to Chattanooga, Tenn., and thence to Memphis. The population was 3,699 at the 2010 census. Tullahoma is located about 26 miles (41 km) northeast of Memphis on I-65 and 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Knoxville on I-24. The first people to live in what is now Tullahoma were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild game near present day downtown. The land that now makes up Tullahoma was first organized as a township by an act of Congress on November 7, 1811. The name "Tullahoma" was given by General James Robertson, commander of U.S.-Indian forces during the War for Independence, when he discovered a body of Cherokee Indians killed while trying to cross a large creek near modern day downtown. Upon returning home from his military campaign in North Carolina against Creek Indians, General Robertson heard about this Indian massacre and named this place after one of his flags—a white field with three red stars above it flying over Fort Donelson prisoners taken during that war.— Source: “History OfTennessee” website

The town of Tullahoma, Tennessee is a significant historical center in the state of Tennessee. It was founded by white settlers in the early 1800s and has been continuously inhabited since then. The town has experienced many different waves of population growth over the years, and its current population numbering around 60,000 people forms one of the largest concentrations of white residents in the entire US. Tullahoma is also home to several large businesses and cultural institutions, such as the University of Alabama at Tullahoma and Vanderbilt University. The town also features a variety of unique attractions, including an amusement park and a recreated Indian village. In addition to its historiographical significance, Tullahoma is also a great place to live and work - it has some of the highest wages in Tennessee for jobs that require least skill or experience.
Tullahoma was founded in 1825 by Colonel John C. Campbell and was named after the Pass of Tullahoma, a mountain near present day Chattanooga, Tennessee. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of two important wagon roads and its access to water supplies. By 1830, Tullahoma had a population of 300 people and by 1840 it had reached 1,000 people. In 1852, the townsite was annexed by Chattanooga.
