Tullahoma, Tennessee is a small town in the southcentral part of the United States. It is located on the left bank of the Cumberland River, about thirty miles northwest of Nashville. The population was 9,452 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in Tullahoma were three men from Scotland who arrived in 1796. They named their land "Tullahoma" after a place in Scotland where they had been traveling when they discovered this area. The first post office was established in 1814 and was called "Cumberland." By 1836, there were two churches and fourteen residents. A sawmill and gristmill were built around 1840, but these failed to provide adequate economic development for the community. In 1851, James Cone brothers founded the Cone Brothers Coal and Coke Company which became one of Tennessee's leading coal companies. In 1865, John Fenton purchased a tract of land adjacent to present-day Tullahoma from David Waddell for $2 per acre. He began to build what is now known as Fenton Park on this land, which included a brick courthouse and other commercial buildings. In 1886, he donated rights to build an indoor baseball park to Tullahoma citizens in memory of his late father-in-law General John Sixtyman (1822–1892). The park opened in 1889 and has been used ever since as a community center and recreational facility. Some early developers of Tullahoma include Jno Ewing (who operated an ice cream parlor), Hiram Boudreau (a grocery store), Mrs. Lillie McCrary (a laundry/dry cleaner), Harry Dickson (a restaurant), etc.. The town experienced another period of growth during the American Civil War due in part to its strategic location between Nashville and Chattanooga and its importance as a transportation hub for supplies traveling up the Tennessee River valley. After the war, many businesses closed down but new ones sprang up including one run by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest that became known as "the Hood factory." During Reconstruction, Tullahoma played an important role in both Democratic and Republican politics until it eventually fell victim to economic decline following World War II. As recently as the early 21st century, there are still occasional celebrations marking traditional Black Baptist religious services or Frontier Days events held at nearby Moseley Park golf course.

In 1814, Tullahoma was founded by Colonel Nathaniel Lyon as a town in what is now Sequatchie County, Tennessee. In 1840, the county seat was moved to Tullahoma and the name of the town changed to Nashville. The first courthouse in Nashville opened in 1851. In 1870, Tullahoma became an independent city and on July 1, 1898 it merged with Nashville to form one municipality. On February 17, 1905, the city of Nashville annexed the Township of Tullahoma east of downtown into its jurisdiction.
