Tullahoma, Tennessee is a small town located in the southern portion of the state of Tennessee. The population was 8,658 at the 2010 census. Tullahoma is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The name "Tullahoma" is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "a place where many birds gather." The first settlers in this area were farmers who came overland from Georgia in 1819. By 1840, there were three stores and one blacksmith in Tullahoma. In 1849, a post office was established at Tullahoma with Fenton as its first mailer. A store and hotel were built on Main Street in 1850 by John Waddell and Clements Brothers. In 1861, General Joe Johnston's army attacked southwestern Tennessee while cavalry general Nathan Bedford Forrest led an attack against Johnston's forces near Kingston Hills. After Confederate soldiers killed five white men near what is now downtown Tullahoma, they burned most of the businesses in that area before retreating back to Chattanooga. One hundred years later, on July 17, 2017, a group of civic leaders including Mayor Andy Berke presented President Donald Trump with a plaque recognizing the community's role during America's War for Independence

Tullahoma is a small town in eastern Tennessee, located on the Cumberland River. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Tullahoma were the Menochie people. They occupied the area around present-day Chattanooga before moving upriver and settling near present-day Union Station in 1824. The land that now makes up Tullahoma was given to General John Cranch by James Robertson as part of his compensation for Creek Nation land taken during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. In 1837, Colonel George Rogers Clark set about organizing a military detachment called "the Twenty-Fourth Tennessee Volunteers" and donated land east of Chattanooga for their use as an encampment and training ground. This camp became known as Fort Loudon after its temporary site was established near modern day Loudonville, Tennessee on November 7, 1837 (the day after Christmas). When Tennessee became a state in 1796, much of what is now Tullahoma County was included within Greene County which had been created from portions of Westmoreland and Lauderdale counties. However, because Greene County contained so much valuable Cherokee territory east of Middle Fork missouri River (including present-day Lebanon), it has been claimed by both Kentucky and Tennessee throughout its history.
