In 1840, an addition to First Presbyterian Church was made which housed a jail for prisoners awaiting trial (also still extant). A post office called "Fenton" was established at this time; it served until it closed July 1st 1865 due to mail fraud by local postmaster John Hennepin (later indicted for bribery and other crimes). The last batch of mail sent through Fenton went through Lebanon Junction instead due to floods occurring along the Cumberland River during that season; however, all mail received at Lebanon Junction continued uninterrupted until 1865 when they too closed due to budget cuts caused by war efforts. Since then, only direct mail has been delivered through Springfield's MAIL BOX office! Both sides during World War II took advantage of tax breaks available within Tennessee government structures: By 1942–1945 taxable income had increased 20% statewide because individuals could no longer get exemptions from paying taxes if they owned businesses or property within state borders! This resulted in an approximate $1 million increase for Hardin County alone from 1942-1945! Another major event which occurred during this time frame would be National Guard service Deployments into downtown areas including hard core military stores such as Bickford’s Hardware Store located on Elm Street just east of Broadway – personnel would stay overnight before returning home without having any contact with civilians or taking any supplies with them!
