Spring Hill is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. SpringHill is known for its art galleries, award-winning restaurants and shopping malls. The first settlers in Spring Hill were two families who bought land from the Cherokee Nation in 1814. They named their new community afterSpringHill Plantation near Chattanooga, Tennessee, which they had seen while traveling through that state on their way to Kentucky to purchase land there. One of the founders of Spring Hill was John Hargrave (1798–1865). He was an American lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1827 to 1829 and as Governor of Tennessee from 1830 to 1831. In 1865 he married Martha Witherspoon (1796–1866), daughter of General James Witherspoon (1779–1847) and his wife Jane Randolph (1780–1848). When Martha died in 1868, John remarried Anna Maria Holmes (1801–1875), daughter of Drury Holmes (1800–1878) and Elizabeth Windham (1800–185?). Together they raised four children: John Hargrave Jr., Anna Maria Holmes Hargrave II, Helen Woodward Hargrave and Edward Everett Hargave III. In 1907 Bertram Beecher organized what would become First Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill when he began preaching there. That same year it hosted its first annual conference; this event marked the beginning of what would become one of the most significant religious movements in America during the late 19th century—the Protestant Reformation movement called Christianity among other things byafederal court decision in Brown v Board Of Education case

Spring Hill was founded by John Sevier in 1796. The first known settler in the area, he named it for his home of springs in Scotland. Sevier sold the land to James Lowry in 1814 and then to David Watt in 1825. In 1830, Watt donated the land to the Tennessee General Assembly, which decided to name it Spring Hill after its founder. In 1892, a school was built on the site and renamed Spring Hill School District #1.
