The Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1868. The first fire engine, a two-wheeled cart, was purchased in 1870. In 1875, the department had six engines and twenty firefighters. The first station was located on White Street. In 1896, the department moved to its present location on Elm Street. In 1911, the department acquired its own engine and hose company. The first truck for providing water to fires was bought in 1925. The department's first100-member volunteer force was organized in 1941. In 1951, the department became an all-volunteer organization with a budget of $1,500 per year.
Spring Hill, Tennessee is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 3,564 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Spring Hill is known for its shopping districts and has been called "the most beautiful place in America." The town's nickname, "The Bloomtown", comes from the abundance of wildflowers that can be seen around town. The first settlers to Spring Hill were farmers who arrived in 1825. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in Spring Hill. In 1835, a store opened in what is now First Avenue and Main Street and began serving the community. One of the earliest businesses in SpringHill was a post office which was built on Main Street in 1868 by John Bedingfield. In 1931, Mayor Fenton Hinson declared April 1 "National Road Day" in memory of General Ulysses S. Grant who died on April 1st that year while fighting at Chattanooga Battlefield National Military Park near present-day Knoxville, Tennessee. This event made Springshill one of only two American towns to commemorate Grant's life (the other being Tuskegee Institute). During World War II, much activity took place within and outside of SpringHill due to the local production of munitions plants operated by both Great Britain and United States companies such as Ford Motor Company and Bethlehem Steel Corporation located nearby; these plants created many jobs for locals during wartime times when available work dried up after hostilities ended. In 1943-1945, SpringHill became home to Victory Gardens where troops from all over Europe were housed during World War II before being sent back home across America as Allied POWs or refugees themselves; many descendants still live within walking distance of this facility today (including some living on First Avenue). Additionally, many local businesses closed during wartime because they could not compete with larger factories feeding into war effort - this included most notably Ford’s main plant which reopened shortly after hostilities had ceased followingInput Wars IAAAUSSR).
