The town was named for springs that lay near by. In 1836, the first school was built in Spring Hill. By 1870, SpringHill had a population of 350 people and a post office. The townspeople developed a brick industry to provide jobs for their residents. In the early twentieth century, SpringHill became known as an agricultural center due to its rich soil and ample rainfall. The town experienced economic decline during World War II because ofigmatical factors such as population growth and military engagement outside the town limits. However, since the late 1990s,Spring Hill has seen an increase in development due to its location within commuting distance of Nashville and Birmingham.

It is the most populous community within the Nashville-Davidson metropolitan area, which has a population of 9 million people. Spring Hill is also one of the fastest growing communities in Tennessee. The history of Spring Hill can be traced back to 1892 when two settlers named John and Anna Stephenson founded what would become SpringHill Township. In 1924, the name was changed to honor Hosea Moberly, who had served as Governor of Tennessee from 1897-1901 and as U.S. Representative from 1901-1903. Moberly's wife Alma later served as mayor of Springfield, Virginia for nine years before she died in 1954. Over time, many businesses have been established in Springshill Township including Mercedes-Benz dealership (founded 1938), Ford dealership (opened 1949), United Methodist Church (established 1925), Presbyterian Church (established 1860), KFC restaurant (founded 1946), and Sears Roebuck & Co.'s department store (established 1911). Some notable residents include musician Roy Orbison and entrepreneur Don Bruce. A shopping center called Village Square opened in 1984 on acres that had once been part ofSpringHill Township but was sold to developers in 2001 for $191 millionThey renamed it "Bruceville". Bruceville contains an electronic commerce mall with over 100 stores and a movie theater complex called VillageSquare 4D Center which screens new releases 3 times daily throughout the year along with numerous other cultural events such as art exhibits and music concerts

In 1811, Nicholas-Jacques Conte died and his invention was bought by his son, Jean Nicolas Conte, who continued to develop it. By 1876, all modern binoculars had been invented by either Jean Nicolas Conte or his son Nicholas-Jacques Conte III.

The town's growth continued until after World War II when it declined due to various factors including population loss from relocation during that time period, economic recession, and changes in state government. However, recent redevelopment efforts have led to renewed interest in Spring Hill and its history both locally and nationally. For instance, the SpringHill History Museum is open every day from 9am-4pm for visitors who want to learn about local businesses, culture, politics, and more. Additionally, there are several restaurants located within walking distance of City Hall that offer unique food experiences or events each week throughout the year. Overall, Springhill is an important community on many levels – both historically and presently – with plenty of opportunity for residents to enjoy its attractions while also participating in local civic organizations.
Spring Hill was founded in 1796 by General John Sevier. It became a town in 1821 and an official city in 1907.
