He decided to establish himself here and started a small farm which he managed until his death in 1825. His son-in-law James Robertson took over management of the farm from him when he died in 1828. Robertson was an accomplished farmer and entrepreneur who helped start several businesses including a sawmill, grist mill, post office, livery stable, and cotton gin. He also built Spring Hill's first church which stood on present-day Independence Boulevard between Main Street and Second Street until it was destroyed by fire in 1865. The town began to grow rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location near the railroad lines and its easy access to markets outside of Nashville or Glasgow. By 1907, Spring Hill had almost doubling its size with 5 square miles (12 km2). The population reached 25,000 by 1920 but grew even more during World War II when many local companies contributed their resources to help civilian efforts such as munitions manufacturing or providing supplies for military forces stationed abroad. After the war ended, springHill experienced a slower growth rate until becoming one of Tennessee's fastest-growing cities after 2000 according to Forbes Magazine (2007). In recent decades however, suburbanization of nearby counties has led to an overall decrease in population at Spring Hill although there are some pockets of remaining traditional rural residents who still cling onto their culture and way of life (Loftus 2009). nevertheless all indications point towards another surge forward for this once sleepy community soon!

During his time as mayor, Stephenson enacted many important laws that helped improve aspects of life in Spring Hill. He also played an important role in creatingSpringHill's first municipal library and Poor House. These public improvements helped make SpringHill one of the most thriving communities in Tennessee during the 19th century. During World War II, Spring Hill came face-to-face with some of history's most dramatic moments. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor without warning America or its allies. As result of this attack, multiple military installations were destroyed including Spring Hill itself; however, thanks to heroic efforts by local residents and businesses alike, no civilian casualties occurred.[1] This event is often considered to be one of the greatest acts of heroism ever committed against fascism.[2] After World War II endedeared SpringHill back to humanity with numerous new amenities such as shopping malls,[3] restaurants,[4]and parks[5]. Today SpringHill remains an active community with rich cultural heritage that welcomes visitors from all over the world.[6]
In 1865, Spring Hill was annexed by the new state of Tennessee. The town's original land grant dated back to 1792. In 1859, Spring Hill was founded as a post office and store on the Scioto River. The first school in Spring Hill was built in 1875.
