Soddy Daisy is a small town in the state of Tennessee. It's located about 25 miles south of Memphis and about 15 miles north of Nashville. The population was 1,060 as of the 2010 census. The history of Soddy Daisy dates back to 1892 when it was organized as a post office by John Soddy and his wife, Emma. The name "Soddy Daisy" originates from a place called "Sadie's Daisy" on the banks of the Cumberland River. In 1906, J.Q. Soddy donated land to make way for a new town in honor of his father-in-law, General William Tecumseh Sherman, who had served in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and then been decorated with an award by President Ulysses S. Grant. The first post office building was built in 1908 and remained in operation until it burned down in 1951. In 1959, construction began on what would become the current headquarters building for the town government which sits on approximately four acres within walking distance of all residents. The building was completed in 1961 and has since been used as both a local government center and municipal courthouse for different towns within Shelby County (which includes Sodder Daisy). The economy of Soddy Daisy is primarily based on agriculture with cattle ranching being one major industry that still uses many traditional methods such as branding, herding, fencing and feedlot management practices dating back to pre-war days when this area suffered greatly from drought conditions caused by lack of rainfed crops throughout much of Great Britain/Ireland during winters such as 1916-17 & 1922-23%. Today however much more recent production takes place through diversified farming including livestock husbandry; horticulture; fruits; vegetables; soybeans; wheat; cornmeal products; leather products etc..
