Soddy Daisy is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The name is actually derived from the area around the town square on the banks of the Maury River. The first settler in Soddy Daisy was J.B. Soddy, who arrived in 1836 and platted what is now the village of Soddy Daisy on land that he purchased from John Sevier. In 1851, A.P. Goode established a sawmill at Soddy Daisy and began production of lumber which helped to drive away timber-destroying wildfires that burned throughout much of Alabama during this time period. The mill closed in 1903 but reopened as an agricultural store in 1907 and continued operation until it ceased operations in 1951 after which it became a private home until it was donated to Knox County for use as a museum in 1978.
