On July 20, 1865, Tennessee's last slave state surrendered to Union forces. The state was soon renamed Soddy Daisy after the Battle of Gettysburg where ConfederateGeneral Robert E. Lee was killed and many of his men were lost.Soddy Daisy is a small town in Johnson County, Tennessee, about 8 miles northeast of Nashville. The town is located on the Cumberland River near its confluence with the Red river. According to tradition, Soddy Daisy was founded by two people from Illinois- Jesse James and Amasa ["The Prophet" Jennings] Smith - who traveled downriver in a canoe looking for land to purchase as slaves. They found some fertile ground on the opposite side of the river and decided to settle there instead of returning home. Soddy Daisy is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Soddy Daisy is located on the banks of the White River and consists of a few businesses, a post office, and a few homes. The first mention of Soddy Daisy comes from an 1828 map by John Cranch that shows what is now Williamson County as part of Tennessee. In 1836, James Folsom founded the town of Folsom in present day Williamson County after raiding neighboring settlements for goods he believed were being traded without paying tribute to Great Britain. In 1840, Folsom's son-in-law named Wm. Hargrave opened a store in what is today's Soddy Daisy and called it "Soddy Daisy". The original store was destroyed by fire in 1848 but was rebuilt with help from local farmers and businessmen including John Auld and George Graves who donated land for the town square. In 1852, Henry Clay Frick settled in what is now Soddy Daisy along with his family after moving from Lebanon, Tennessee to start new life in an unsettled region where slavery had been abolished two years earlier. After working his way up through the ranks at some of Knoxville's largest firms such as Frankfort Coke & Carbonate Works and Nashville Mining Company (which became Vanderbilt Copper Mines), Frick purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) near present day Soddy Daisy for $8 per acre ($/ha). With this purchase he became one of the most powerful men in Knoxville because he could control how much ore could be mined on his properties without having to worry about competition or Sloan Thornton's claim to monopoly on copper production withinKnoxville limits. Frick would use his wealth to build churches, schools, hospitals, roads and other infrastructure that helped make Soddy Daisy one of the most important towns within its borders during its early years as a settlement. Frick died young however; his wife Nannie would take over running their business until her death around 1915 when their children took over running it until their father's death two years later leaving it to their mother who operated it until her own death in 1935 Interestingly enough all four daughters inherited property sharecropping rights which they continue to operate today although not under full throttle due mainly due to recent changes made by county officials intendingto change zoning laws presently allowing residential development adjacentto commercial areas along White Riverbanks Bluff Road more than 600 feet (.183 meters) below river surface making access difficult particularly during winter months when water levels are low making navigation difficult). One particular event which stands out among many during early days at SodderDaisy was when William McKinney set up shop downriver from them selling supplies including lumberHe also started building himself anattaqua dock which continues operation todayalbeit with reduced traffic given increasing access available via state highway 61 just eastof town limits)and soon became known as McKinney Dock becauseoremain resident Wm McKinney used it extensively while living upstream."

It was located on the banks of the Little River about one mile east of what is now downtown Chattanooga. The Soddy Daisy post office first opened in 1851. The village name is probably derived from some local words meaning "a small clearing" or "gathering". When white settlers arrived in this area in the early 1800s they discovered wild fruit trees and decided to settle there. They named their settlement Soddy Daisy after a nearby bend in the Little River where they found several large boulders that had been used as markers for their new location.
