Soddy Daisy is located on State Route 309 and Interstate 40. The first settlers in what is now Soddy Daisy were Hugh and Anna Sprague who arrived in 1827. Anna Sprague's husband, James Sprague, also settled there around 1830. The Spragues named their settlement after a nearby daisy flower which they observed growing wild near their farmstead. In 1836, three brothers – John Pritchard, George Witherspoon and Isaac Allbright – purchased land in present-day Soddy Daisy from theSpragues for $5 per acre. They laid out a town square that still stands today with four stores and a jail/police station on one side and church on the other. In 1840, the ALLBRIGHTS sold their holdings to David Dixon for $10 per acre In 1847 two more brothers – John Withersvelt and James Buchanan - bought land from David Dixon for $15 per acre .
