In 1865, John Fenton built a gristmill on White Street in what is now downtown Soddy Daisy. For many years it operated as one of the largest mills in Williamson County. By 1880 it had closed and been replaced by an electricpowered mill that still operates today. The mill also produced flour for local markets including Clarksville and Rogersville before it became defunct in 1907. Despite its close proximity to Memphis and other major cities during its early days, little development took place within the community until after World War II when Interstate 65 bypassed Williamson County and new settlers began moving into the area; this led to increased development around downtown Sodder Daisy which has since become one of the most vibrant communities within Greater Memphis

Soddy Daisy is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson metropolitan area. The town was founded by Soddy Daisy settlers in 1881. They named their community after nearby Sladyshire, England, where they had been vacationing with their families. The name stuck and the town continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1960. The history of Soddy Daisy begins with one man - James Fenton - who started trading goods from his farmstead on the banks of the Cumberland River in 1881. From this humble beginning, Fenton and his wife Sally constructed a log cabin and began growing crops that would later provide them with income to support their family. In 1916, Fenton's son-in-law Cyrus Hinton donated land to build a school which would serve as the nucleus for Soddy Daisy's present day economy. With a new schoolhouse completed in 1917, village residents decided to rename themselves "Daisy" after Mrs. Hinton's birthplace in Scotland (the name has since been changed). In 1941, during World War II, local residents worked together to create munitions plants within five miles of town limits for production of B-24 Liberator bombers for the USAAF air force; these factories remain operational today as Ansaldo Corporation Limited facilities on Park Avenue near downtown Soddy Daisy."
