Smyrna is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. Smyrna is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. It is located on the Cumberland River and has a humid subtropical climate. The first European to reach Smyrna was Captain James Cook on his way to find Australia in 1788. Smyrna had a post office from 1825 until it discontinued operations in 1907. In 1930, the town became an incorporated village with a single school and one telephone line. Since World War II, Smyrna has been home to many military personnel and their families who have returned after serving in countries such as Japan and Vietnam. Many of these residents continue to live in the town through businesses that they established or continue running since they left service; others have moved away and resumed their lives elsewhere within Davidson County or outside of Tennessee altogether. The primary industry now activities in Smyrna are retail sales which include general store, hardware store, restaurant, gasoline station and convenience store combination; it also does some manufacturing including for automobiles new and used tires by two companies that use local labor but outsources most other production due to low prices paid by those companies for raw materials found within easy reach by both workers and customers near-by (the only exceptions being products made for export). Employment grew slightly during 2002-2003 but decreased again during 2003-2004 asvolume levels declined among various sectors reflecting overall economic recession throughout much of Tennessee region during 2003-2004

Smyrna, Tennessee is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee and the seat of Hardin County government. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Smyrna is located on the Cumberland River and is bordered by Tullahoma to the north, Morristown to the east, Pigeon Forge to the south, and Tellico City to the west. The first permanent settler in Smyrna was James C. Boyd who arrived in 1825. Boyd's son John J. Boyd donated land for a courthouse and school which were built in 1827. The town was named after Smyrna, Alabama where James C. Boyd had grown up. In 1830, John Millington founded a sawmill near what is now downtown Smyrna and soon other mills were established throughout what is today Hardin County. By 1840, over 100 businesses had been established within Smyrna limits with a payroll of $10,000 annually! In 1845-46 an act of Congress designated Hardin as one of five counties that would be formed from Knoxville under statehood legislation; however this did not happen until 1860 when Hardin became part of Tennessee along with Lebanon and Rutherford counties
On October 14, 1819, Smyrna was founded by the brothers John and James Smyrna. The Smyrnas were Presbyterians who arrived in Tennessee from Kentucky. They built a Log Cabin on the bank of the river that is now known as Elm Street. On December 12, 1821, they married Anna Maria Greenleaf and chartered a new Presbyterian church in honor of their first pastor, Rev. John Greenleaf. In 1830, they had six children and moved to Nashville to be closer to family and friends. James died in 1857 at the age of 76 after a long life of service to his community.
