Fulton built the first permanent optical instrument shop in Shelbyville. He designed and built a range of telescopes that were effective at resolving objects closer than 100 yards. In 1835, two men by the name of Wilkinson and Hutton developed a new type of telescope known as the 'Huttonian Telescope'. This telescope was able to resolve objects down to about 25 yards away. This new invention allowed people to see details that they would have been able to only imagine with prior technology. With the use of this type of telescope, people could see things like stars and planets that they would have otherwise been unable to see. During World War II, many German scientists were captured by the United States military and brought over to America so they could be employed on Project Y-12 which was focused on developing anti-gravity devices. One of these scientists was Dr. George Airy who designed an early telescopic sight called the 'Airyscope'. After World War II ended, many American scientists returned home and began working on furthering their scientific knowledge within America which led to the development of modern scopes such as digital eyeshades and microscopes

The school operated until 1840 when it burned down due to an overindulgence by students on woodchips that were given to them as currency by their teacher during class time). A second school opened in 1850 on Second Avenue South which also burned down but this time thanks to donations from Mr Gentry locals were able to rebuild it using funds received from other businesses located near the original location including a mill and store on Spring Branch creek (now known as White Settlement Rd). A third school opened also on Second Avenue South soon afterwards but again it too failed due to financial problems caused by high demand for education within the community at that time around $5 per day for basic schooling (a price which has not changed much since then although prices have increased slightly)). Eventually all three schools merged into one which continued operating until 1957 when it closed permanently due to budget cuts made by county government officials under Governor Donelson following his successful gubernatorial campaign against John F Kennedy). A new elementary school was built on Commerce Street between Third and Fourth Avenues North in 1955 which became known as Eastland Elementary School (later renamed Academy Christian Schools) and continued serving both sexes until 1997 when it closed its doors after thirty years Of operation; however Eastland remains registered with the National Register of Historic Places.). From these early settlers many families moved westward or southward over time into what are today Buena Vista Township (Tennessee) – parts of current day Clarksburg], Selma], Murfreesboro],[Nashville]]], Tupelo],[Johnson City]]], Lebanon (then Johnson County), Decatur|[Mt Juliette]}}, present day Brentwood]]. Settlers arrived mainly from Kentucky via Cumberland Gap([Rutherford County])and West Virginia ([ Mingo County]), primarily settle areas along river valleys such as Iuka River valley, Holston River valley, [McMaster Valley],[Pleasant Valley]}}, eastern end [/\ central Knoxvillians living near large Milanese plantations below Lowman Dam[Knox County]) further north along Cumberland River into modern day Calhoun,[Grant County]). Many settlers came direct from English colonies like Bristol([New York]), Plymouth ([ Massachusetts]), Jamestown ([ Virginia]), Newburyport ([ Connecticut]), Ipswich([ Massachusetts]) etc.) while others journeyed via steamboats through rapids or wading across Rivers Ohiolock,[Ohio]'s MaumeeRiver]]. These early arrivalsunited with various Creek Indian tribe groups already living nearby[/Ipswich natives established village here about 1800 called Frenchtown ({Ipswich}))}. Thereafter Francetown prospered as a trading postand general store(s)]. However Frenchtown ultimately fell victimto white encroachment following American Revolution}[]

The town experienced significant growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century as a result of its location on the railroad network. In 1915, Shelbyville became the seat of government for Montgomery County and has since been host to many municipal functions including city council meetings, county commissioners meetings, and state legislative hearings. Shelbyville is a town in Wayne County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,564 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wayne County and the largest municipality in Wayne County by area. The name derives from Indian word “shelby” meaning "a meadow," "hill" or "forest." The first settler in Shelbyville was David Shelby who arrived on May 11, 1796. He built a log cabin on what is now known as State Route 71 near present day Mount Lebanon. Four other early settlers - John Sevier (1798), James Robertson (1800), Solomon Atwater (1801) and Nicholas Goodloe (1802) - erected log cabins around this time also in present day Shelbyville. In 1807, General Andrew Jackson appointed Jesse Dickson lieutenant colonel of volunteers for the War of 1812 and he soon founded Dickson's Mill which became one of the most important businesses in Shelbyville. In 1827, General Polk appointed Captain Wm Hargrave captain of militia for Stephenson County and he soon organized a store here to sell goods to soldiers stationed thereabouts during the war. The first post office in Shelbyville was established on November 15, 1830 by Simeon Grimes with Pulteney as his postmaster; it closed on July 4th of that year because Pulteney had moved to Nashville before then. A new post office was opened at Clarksburg on December 1st 1830 by Isaac Bannister with Elijah Hicks as his postmaster; it closed January 3rd 1831 due to lack of mail traffic between Clarksburg and Shelbyville]. This period saw many small businesses open up along SR71 including Wharf House tavern which served whiskey until prohibition began.; Brown & Sons grocery store which later became an old bank;; Mrs Jno Cook's house where she ran a bakery until her death in 1912;; Eberhard Weiser's tannery;; Laddie Electric coop;; Henry Capps' restaurant>>Today's shopping center called Gateway Shopping Center
