By 1840 more than 100 businesses had been constructed Downtown including stores such as Lowes Hardware & general store; banks such as First National Bank (founded 1841), Cumberland Savings Bank (1846), Masons' Temple No 2 (1847), Presbyterian Church (1848) - one of first Protestant churches in Memphis - tannery (owned by Jernigan & Company) - largest producer ofTennessee tanning leather; filling station on Main Street where coal was bought/sold by stagecoach passengers; agricultural supplies store operated by Cockerill Brothers until about 1850; drugstore operated by John Bowers beginning about 1860 until 1870; post office established April 1st 1851 with Wm Hargrave as Postmaster General The growth of cotton culture brought new development to downtown Shelbyville starting late 1800's through early 1900's including: erection·of·a·new·township·called··Sheridan ·in 1909; establishment··of··the··National··Tourism Bureau ·in 1912 ·the··translation·of··into English·of··the……Chinese New Year celebration parade ·in 1916 In 1924 growth stopped due to Great Depression while Downtown experienced some renewal with establishment of several restaurants ·and shops including Sears department store which opened 1951 followed by Kmart department store opening 1957 which became homeredown Orchard mall which opened in 1959 along with Belk department store later that year anchored by anchor Uptown Mall .Mall Opry begins performance at Riverfront Coliseum on October 24th 1959 followed two years later on December 3rd 1961 with Elvis Presley live performance

In 1875, British scientist John Herschel developed an instrument called the 8-inch Royal Observatory Mirror which was able to image stars up to 82 miles away. To overcome these difficulties, Herschel designed and built his own 8-inch reflector telescope which he called the 1 metre European Reflector Telescope (ERT). This telescope was finally operational in 1881 and allowed astronomers to image faint galaxies and other objects much closer than they had ever been able to before. As new technology improved, more optical devices were created including magnifying glasses, telescopes with variable magnification capabilities, astrographs (graphical instruments that allow you take pictures of distant galaxies), binoculars/quadruplets (two or four eyes looking through one object), transponders (pieces of metal or plastic that are stuck onto submarines so they can communicate with other ships or satellites) and even contact lenses! It is interesting to note that each type of device had its own unique advantages over its predecessor. For example, contact lenses were initially used as medical tools but soon became popular among lay people due their ability to improve vision without glasses! By 1930, almost all forms of Optical Devices had come into common use across different societies around the world!
