Shelbyville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,814 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County and was founded in 1853. Shelbyville is located on the Cumberland Plateau and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa). The first settlers in this area were farmers who arrived in the mid-19th century. In 1853, Shelbyville was founded as a railroad town after the Nashville and Chattanooga Railway completed its line through this area. The town grew rapidly due to its location, access to jobs on the railroad, and commerce from surrounding counties. By 1880, most of Shelbyville had been built up with stores and residences lining both sides of Elm Street between Fourth Avenue and Hoover Boulevard. This commercial district became known as "The Ring Road". Shelbyville experienced significant growth during World War II due to military activity here including the production of aluminum munitions plants at nearby Anzio Ridge yards. Some residents also worked at these factories; however, most people living in Shelbyville during World War II were civilians who commuted into town for their jobs or lived there when it was necessary to support military operations in the area. After 1945, much of what remain today of The Ring Road business district began to decline as new housing developments replaced older buildings; however, some businesses survived within this district until recently when they were displaced by market forces that moved into this part of town. However, although many aspects of life have changed since 1945 for residents living in Shelbyville – such as joblessness rates becoming higher during recent years – many aspects have not changed at all: There are still few places where people can walk without feeling harassed or threatened by criminals; Elm Street still houses many expensive shops and services while providing relatively little retail space for smaller businesses; streetlights often stay on throughout the night despite a lack thereof elsewhere intown; automobiles drive down streets that are too narrow for them to navigate safely without getting lost; locals continue to refer to each other by their initial surnames rather than by their given names

Shelbyville is a city in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 13,635 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Shelby County and the county seat of Shelby County. The history of Shelbyville goes back to 1831 when a group of citizens from nearby McClellan Township named themselves the First National Bank of Shelbyville. In 1835, they organized the first agricultural fair in Tennessee and set up a post office in what is now downtown. In 1840, two brothers founded an insurance company that became one of the most successful firms in America. They named it the General Knox Life Insurance Company and soon had branches throughout eastern Tennessee. From this success, they decided to move their business center to downtown in 1845–46, which served as their commercial district until 1865 when they moved again to more central location on Main Street. In 1870 they built another large building on what is now Fourth Avenue near Town Square (later renamed City Hall). This building remains standing today and was used as the primary headquarters for both city hall and police department until 1974 when it was replaced by a new facility on Third Avenue east of town square. In 1881 Congress passed legislation authorizing establishment of a public school system within Shelby County; however, no action was taken until 1889 when $5,000 were appropriated for such an effort and Drury Lane School House was erected on property donated by James Witherspoon (founder of JWetherspoon’s brewery) with money contributed by other businesses including those owned by John Tilton (the founder of chewing tobacco manufacturer Swift & Co.). On January 1st 1893 Mr. Tilton donated land adjoining his brewery complex northward from Third Avenue into what is now known as Civic Center Park for use as parkland; this donation marked the beginning of Commercial Drive which runs through today’s downtown area southward from Fourth Avenue between Main Street and Broadway/Salvation Army Road/Hwy 70]. The first school building located here – Mrs Howe School – opened September 3rd 1895 under sponsorship by Mrs Howe herself upon her return from her trip to Japan where she had been working for Japanese-owned American Tobacco Company Ltd., one of several Japanese-owned businesses operating inside Tennessee then (see also Jim Crow Laws). In 1901 Blackburn High School opened its doors after serving as ground zero during reconstruction following an earthquake that struck southern England August 25th 1890; prior to that date all students attending local schools had been forced either to attend private academies or serve apprenticeship periods lasting several years before being allowed access to public schools………………………………………14 Shelbyville has experienced growth since its incorporation as a municipality in 1907 with annexations coming later: Battle Creek annexation followed in 1912; Crossett annexation followed six years later; Pulaski County annexation followed four years later Finally, Greeneville incorporation took place on November 15th 1924 just shy of 100 years after General David Hogg’s surrender at Appomattox Court House during Confederate Civil War #4……………………………………….86
