Red Bank, Tennessee is home to the world's only rifle stock show. The show has been taking place annually since 1909 and features more than 50 exhibitors from around the world. This year's event will take place on Saturday, October 3rd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Red Bank Tennis Club in Red Bank, TN. There will be a variety of rifles on display, as well as artillery and pistols demonstrations by various military surplus dealers and manufacturers. Red Bank, Tennessee is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Red Bank is one of two towns in Hardin County and it is also one of three towns that make up the county seat. The first settler in Red Bank was Levi Shortridge. He and his family arrived on a wagon train from Kentucky on July 4, 1811. They were welcomed by Sheriff James Aiken and other officials who established a court house and jail in the town. The Shortridges built their home on what is now Main Street just east of present-day Church Road. By 1830, Red Bank had a schoolhouse and store - both operated by Mrs. Anna Griggs until 1836 when she donated land to build an academy which still stands today as Greeneville Academy School District No 3A (grades 6 through 12). In 1824, John Hance settled in what is now red bank north of downtown Memphis for his cotton plantation called "Hance's Mill." In 1830 he began construction on what would become Hance's Store & Creamery -today known as the First National Bank building - which served as a commercial center for much of Hardin County during its early years. In 1840 Hance married local girl Sarah Stephenson and started to populate the village with his new wife's family soon after they moved into their farmstead located several miles northeast of town on Hogback Creek nearpresent-day Moseley Cemetery (). The first post office opened in Red Bank on September 15, 1846 under name "Cleveland". That same year saw the arrival of Drury & Wheeler merchants transporting goods overland from Nashville via Jackson to Chattanooga then south to Mobile before reaching Tennessee headwaters at Red Banks Ferry (). This entrepreneurially motivated trade created many jobs for locals including blacksmiths, farmers, laborers (including many slaves), along with entrepreneurs such as Hiram Gentry who founded Gentry’s grocery store across from present day Ford’s Theatre () later named Gentry’s Furniture Mart (). Red Bank, Tennessee was founded on July 10, 1817 by James Robertson and his brother David. The community was named for the banks of the river that ran through it. Red Bank grew rapidly due to its location, access to natural resources, and population growth. By 1859, Red Bank had a population of 1,500 people. In 1865, the town became an incorporated municipality with a population of 3,000 people. In 1916, Red Bank was renamed Chattanooga after the city in Tennessee that had been home to the first English settlement in what is now Tennessee.
