Red Bank, Tennessee is a village located in Knox County, Tennessee. The population of Red Bank was 1,043 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Red Bank was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1819. The first white settler, John Whitehead, arrived in 1825 and began to trade with the Cherokee Indians. In 1830, Baptist missionaries arrived and built a church and school in Red Bank. The town grew rapidly from its early days as a small trading post to an agricultural center during the antebellum period. In 1860, red-brick buildings were built on what is now Main Street in Red Bank for the new county courthouse. That same year saw the founding of the Presbyterian Church in Red Banks village form which still meets today inside former Methodist Church building on North Main Street). The town's growth continued through Reconstruction Era times until it lost its status as an independent municipality after World War II when it became part of Chattanooga (then known as Mission Hill). In 1949, Red Banks changed its name to Greenbank after Dr. Jens Aa Høegh (1897-1978) donated land for that purpose within his estate called "Hedvigtuna". Hedvigtuna means "estate of Hereditary Lords" in Danish and refers to Blue Hill Estate situated about 12 miles northwest of Helsingborg Municipality on Zealand National Park which belonged to Prince Christian IX between 1792-1814 (). During that time various businesses including farms, lumberyards and cotton plantations were established within what is now Greenbank Village limits; however most residents currently reside within their original villages or townships except for one instance where residents have moved into Greenbank Village from elsewhere within Knox County: portions of Lookout Valley Township located just south of Gatlinburg Municipal Airport serving portions thereof since 1967); while other portions extending into McIntosh Township served principally by Sevier County Schools between Hickory Ridge Road/Old Hickory Airport eastward towards Pigeon Forge; all these districts are included herein as “Greenbank” even though they may be considered separately municipally chartered entities due mainly thereto being adjacent thereto geographically but also historically having been parenthetical constituents thereof through annexation or outlying boundaries changes etc.; while some individual residences do straddle more than one municipality boundary: such being contained hereinén Wynnwood Estates addressed herein northerly along State Route 65W adjoining Lookout Valley Municipality thence southeast along SR 65E thence southwest along US Highway 20W reaching its eastern terminus atSR 209E just northeast of VA 245 Truck Stop
