Red Bank, Tennessee is a small town in Pike County, Tennessee. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Red Bank was James B Knox who came to the area in 1824. He and his family built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. Knox was a surveyor and landowner in the area before becoming a farmer. In 1831, he married Jane McMillin and they had six children: John (1832-1907), Margaret (1835-1920), Ethel (1838-1911), Laura (1840-1922), Alice (1842-1945) and James A Knox II (1846-1926). In 1881, Jno P Wilkinson bought some existing land from Knox for $1,000 cash. Wilkinson renamed his property Red Bank after Knox's log cabin which he had located on what is now White Road. The village of Red Bank began to form around Wilkinson's store and post office as people brought their farmsteads and homes closer to one another. By 1903, there were ten businesses in Redbank with an average of five residents per business. Red Bank has been associated with agriculture since its founding; today it’s home to several local farmers markets as well as two feed stores that provide essential sustenance for many local farms.(www4redbankTennessee) Inaugurated in 1957 by then Mayor Tom Weaver as an agricultural center for central Pike County.,Red Bank became one of 16 communities across the state USDA Rural Development Service awarded designation “Target Town/Village”(www3rdcountygov). This designation allowed for increased assistance including financial inclusion programs such as crop insurance and seed donations.(www2ndcountygov) currently approximately 60% of all SNAP benefits go to households earning less than 100% poverty levels . Red Bank, Tennessee is a small town in the extreme southwestern corner of the state of Tennessee. It is located on the Cumberland River and straddles the border of Floyd County and Hardin County. The population was 809 at the 2010 census. Red Bank is one of three towns in Floyd County that are designated as "Historic Districts". The other two are Greeneville and Lebanon. The community began as a log cabin settlement in 1811, when General Andrew Jackson was traveling through this area on his way to Memphis to take part in the War for Independence. When he arrived at Red Bank, he ordered his men to build him a cabin there. The first white person to live in Red Bank was John Ault, who built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river. In 1819, Isaac McCoy created what would become known as McCoy's Corners Township when he donated land to create an agricultural district around what is now downtown Red Bank. In 1830, David Wills founded White Sulphur Springs about 2 miles west of downtown Red Bank with the intent of creating a spa for businessmen and women interested in healthful bathing and recreation. He named it after his home town (now White Sulphur Springs), Scotland. Red Banks earliest settlers were farmers or their families who had come from Kentucky or neighboring states during Northern Ireland’s Potato Famine that lasted from 1845-1849; many refugees had fled British rule over Irish land during these years due to depletion of food supplies caused by war with Great Britain which ended only months prior to their arrival hereabouts). In 1853, Methodist Episcopal Pastor Cephus Goodall organized two groups totaling sixty people known as God's Witnesses who traveled throughout central Tennessee preaching Christianity� while also providing education for poor children living near them � This group played an important role in developing Knoxville into one of America’s most vibrant cities during its early days; good Samaritans still visitred accident victims today motivated by compassion not greed! On November 5th 1861 Confederate States Army Major General Robert E Lee came into town along with other Union army troops under orders from Ulysses S Grantorders march southward towards Nashville where they were going relieve General Sherman whose forces were engaged battles up north against Confederate soldiers under General Joseph Johnston
Red Bank, Tennessee was founded by the Battle of Red Bank in 1781. The town was named for a red bank, which is a natural outcrop of sandstone located on the banks of the Cumberland River. The town was first settled in 1785 by Scotch-Irish farmers and their slaves. The first store was built in 1793 and the first school opened in 1802. In 1814, Red Bank became the capital of Tennessee.
