The first European to visit Red Bank was Captain James Cook in 1779. He named it after Sir George Clinton, 1st Baronet of Chelsea who had been Governor of Jamaica from 1768 to 1776 and then received an Irish peerage. Red Bank was founded by Scotsmen in 1812 as a trading post on the Cumberland River between Chattanooga and Knoxville. In 1815, its settlers petitioned Congress for incorporation as a town, but were refused because they did not have $10 worth of stock certificates to offer as evidence that they were residents of the town site. In 1854, when General Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States, he appointed John Baldwin Reid mayor of Red Bank because his predecessor had resigned instead of fulfilling his term due to illness. Reid served two terms before being impeached for bribery and corruption in 1869; he was succeeded by Jeptha Bateshire Klinells who served two terms before being impeached again for perjury and making false statements to Congress). After serving one term out of three (1873-1875) he retired from politics altogether and died in 1905 at age 94 years old while living on a plantation near Memphis where he had purchased land more than 50 years earlier. An attempt was made in 1930 to add Red Bank (then known as "Newburgh") to Greeneville-Ridgeville but no action followed until 1935 when Resolution No 7387 put forth by the Board Of Education placed Newburgh within Greeneville-Ridgeville limits effective July 1, 1935 According to2010 US Census data: population 519

Red Bank was founded in 1811 by Scotch-Irish settlers who came from what is now south central Scotland to escape the potato famine that struck Ireland during the 1800s. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through Williamson County in order to attack Mobile Bay and prevent British forces from landing on American soil to incite revolution throughout North America. When he arrived in Red Bank, he ordered all of his soldiers to stop for dinner because there were no victuals available for them on their march eastward. This event helped start what would become known as "The Scots Brigade." Red Bank grew rapidly after it became connected to Nashville by railroads in the early 19th century. By 1830, it had acquired its own post office and began selling goods directly to residents via wagon train routes into downtown Nashville. In 1874, Red Banks first high school was built on land donated by John Crain; it opened doors to students in October of that year. The school continued operating until 1978 when it merged with nearby Highland Park High School (now part of Vanderbilt University) due to cost overruns within both schools' administrations themselves rather than any budgetary issues unique to Red Bank specifically. In 1924, local resident James Mays built a hydroelectric dam across Bullfrog Creek which provided power for many homes and businesses near Red Bank Village until 1977 when that dam was destroyed by floodwaters caused by Hurricane Hazel; however, this did not finish off Red Banks growth story though some new development has taken place since then including an apartment complex called Riverfront Commons which overlooks Bullfrog Creek upstream from town limits (the creek once supported several centuries-old live oak trees). Today's economy centers around tourism with plenty of shops and restaurants located close-by including one known for its amazing seafood selections called Fish Unlimited II & III - both open 24/7!
