Red Bank, Tennessee is a town located in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 5,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson metropolitan area. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson's forces besieged and destroyed Red Bank as part of the Battle of Yellow Tavern Hill. The town was platted in 1828 by James K. Polk and named for Randolph Buford, who had been a brigadier general in Polk's army during the War of 1812. Red Bank is one of several small communities that make up the Cumberland Plateau region near Nashville and Davidson County. The plateaus are ringed by mountains that run to the south and east; these ridges separate two valleys): those near Athens to the west and those around Chattanooga to the east. These valleys were formed when liquid water pooled on earth over millions of years beneathlying Precambrian rocks that have since been eroded away by weathering and erosion. Today much of this land is covered with pine trees, oak trees, hickory trees, cottonwoods, rivers flowing through it (the Cumberland River forms most of Greeneville), cattle pastures (a mainstay for centuries because there was no saltpetre processing here until early 20th century), farms (including some large plantations) and roads running through it; but many miles contain only rolling prairies or bare hills terminated by ranges which rise abruptly from their flanks above picturesque villages set among agriculture: Dayton to the northwest; Knoxville to northeast; Murfreesboro to southeast; Chattanooga to southwest. The first white settler in Red Bank was James Kuple who arrived there in 1828 with his family from Ohio following news of General Andrew Jackson's battle at Yellow Tavern Hill two years earlier In 1830 Mr Kuple married Miss Jane Childs from Tennessee While living there he erected a log cabin known as "The Old Fort". After purchasing an acreage lot adjoining his home he called it "Sandusky" He died in 1840 but his widow continued farming there until her death in 1850 . Mrs Childs' grandson John Fenton purchased her farmstead after her death On July 1st 1860 JFenton married Hettie Peeler sister-in-lawof David Ramsey who lived next door on Herndon Street between Lookout Road & Elmwood Drive which became known as Ramsey Place after him

Red Bank was renamed Greenville in 1920 after nearby Greeneville, Tennessee became an independent city. The population of Red Bank decreased to 2,000 by 1930 and it has never regained its former importance as a commercial center. However, the town remains a popular tourist destination due to its historical significance and scenic views.
