Oak Ridge, Tennessee is an unincorporated community in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Knoxville. Oak Ridge was founded in 1917 by a group of scientists from Oak Ridge National Laboratory who were working on a new type of uranium enrichment plant. The name Oak Ridge comes from an old oak tree that stood near the original site of the lab.
