In 1819 Nathaniel Banks bought 5 lots adjacent to what is now Music Row from John Donelson for $1 cash only – this became Vanderbilt Place later renamed Bankhead Street – which became downtown NASHVILLE after him[11][12]. On December 16th 1827 Samuel Morse sent a paper airplane overshot Washington D C by more than 12 miles (19 km) while flying over MUSIC row – this so impressed President James K Polk that he offered Morse an appointment as Commissioner of Commerce[13][14], which he accepted and started work on July 24th 1830 using aerial photography developed by Samuel Morse himself!
