Murfreesboro is a city located in Rutherford County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 497 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rutherford County and home to the headquarters of the Nashville Titans football team. The name "Mufreesboro" was given to the town by General David Murrell in 1798. The first permanent settler in what would become Murfreesboro was John Sevier, who built an old cabin on what is now State Route 601 (now Mockingbird Lane). In 1811, James Robertson founded a small community called Robertsonstown on land that he bought from David Blount. The community grew rapidly because of its excellent location adjacent to Cumberland River and its timber resources. By 1817, two-thirds of all the settlers in Rutherford County had relocated here. In 1818, General Andrew Jackson's Corps of Volunteers arrived in Tennessee to help suppress anti-slavery riots that were taking place throughout much of America at this time.
