The original town of Murfreesboro was located near the confluence of the Cumberland and Roanoke Rivers. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Nashville to Murfreesboro to support General Creekâs invasion of Georgia. The town grew rapidly and by 1825 it had a population of over 2,000 people. On November 1, 1827, Murfreesboro became a county seat and remained so until December 3, 1870 when it became an incorporated town under state law.

There are large numbers of Vietnamese and other Southeast Asians who have moved into town during recent years due to job opportunities there while they await permanent residency status in their own countries

Murderers Row, located in Murfreesboro, was a historically black neighborhood in Tennessee. It was closed down in the early 1970s after the city council became concerned about a high number of homicides within its boundaries.
