In 1824, General James Robertson decided to move his headquarters from Glasgow toKnoxville due to concerns about British expansion into eastern Tennessee. He named his new town after himself – Murfreesboro – which he considered to be part of Chattanooga proper (at that time part of Georgia). Over time, East Knoxville developed into a thriving community with cotton plantations and brick homes dating back to antebellum times. By 1830, many whites had left for Louisville or Nashville due to racism policies put into place by Governor John Connally following Reconstruction-era America's effort to make amends for previous discrimination against black people across entire Southwestern states (See "The Jim Crow Era"). In 1924, Murphreestown became one of several charter cities within the Tennessee Valley Authority following passage of legislation legalizing cities throughout Virginia along with other advancements during President Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal era (see "Tennessee Valley Authority"). The authority quickly grew active with various projects such as dams Construction began on several major river crossings including Big Black Creek (later known as Cumberland River)and Danner Dam followed by Wartburg Dam(1936), Cheatham Reservoir(1940), Bridgeport Reservoir(1945), Cannon Falls Power Plant(1950)and Lookout Mountain Power Plant(1965). In response to increased energy needs caused by technological advances such as gasoline-electric hybrids automobiles were becoming more common; coal-fired power plants were no longer practical due primarily to environmental considerations As oil production decreased in North Texas during the 1970s; TNVA found itself increasingly reliant on natural gas resources from Marcellus Shale field located eastward adjacentWNelson County By late 2000s most TNVA facilities were retired/leased or converted into condos/townhouses reverting back back back againto their originalintentions but having enhanced features likeGPS tracking/internet access etc… needlessto say there’s quite an irony about retirement communities located outside urban areas being usedby municipalities inside those sameUrban areas
