Gun lights have a long and textured history in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The first gun light was introduced to the area in 1885, when Sheriff W.C. Littlefield purchased an American-made revolver with a small light on the barrel to assist law enforcement officers during night operations. The first gun light attachments were also made for revolvers, becoming known as “lamp attachments” or simply “gun lights.” Over time different types of attachments were developed, includingknives and riflesights. In 1932, Mayor William Ladd sponsored legislation that created the city's first ordinance regulating firearms and flashlight use in public places. This ordinance limited the use of firearms without prior written consent from owners or operators of businesses within City limits. Gun lights remained common sights throughout much of TN until they were finally banned in 1984 following a string of high-profile shootings across the state.

In 1967, Murfreesboro lost its charter as an incorporated town to be annexed into Nashville. The economy of Murfreesboro is dominated by education and health care services. Health Care Services account for more than 60% of all business revenue while Manufacturing and Retail trade are also major sectors employing many residents.

The first European settlers in what is now Murfreesboro were French Catholics who arrived during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. They built a small settlement on the banks of the Cumberland River and named it after Father Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, who had been kidnapped by Indians in 1785. In 1816, Captain John Smith founded Fort Nashborough on land that later became Murfreesboro. This was one of the first settlements within present day Tennessee and served as headquarters for General Andrew Jackson’s army during his campaign against Native American rebels in 1818. The city began to grow rapidly following World War II when Allied forces created several major factories here such as Boeing and Chrysler Corporation. Many local residents played key roles in this time period including being instrumental in developing both military camps and post-war reconstruction efforts. Despite this growth, however, many challenges still faced Murfreesboro during its early years including persistent poverty, high crime rates, lack of education opportunities for young people, and difficulty getting workers to stay overnight due to distance from metropolitan areas. In 1965, Mayor Willis Witherspoon formed an all-volunteer fire department which quickly grew into one of Tennessee’s leading services; today it employs over 100 firefighters with responsibility for extinguishing more than 3200 fires annually statewide! Today, Murfreesboro remains an important center for commerce and culture with a vibrant arts scene; its restaurants are among Tennesseans’ top choices for foodie dining also offering outdoor seating if desired. Its downtown area is home to several large businesses including Dillard’s Department Store (now Macy’s), Coca Cola Company USA HQ Campus store (later known as Walmart), FedEx Ground Station/Office Park at 9th Street North Carolina Avenue South (later known as KFC), TN Children’s Hospital & Research Institute (CHRI) -formerly Vanderbilt University Medical Center -and numerous other businesses and organizations totaling over 20 acres!
Murfreesboro, Tennessee was founded in 1796 by General James Robertson. The city was named for Colonel John Murfreesboro, a Revolutionary War hero and an early settler in the area. The first store in town opened in 1800. By 1810, the population of Murfreesboro had reached 10,000. In 1815, the Tennessee state legislature moved the capital from Nashville to Murfreesboro following a dispute over which city should have been designated as the new state capital. The city's growth continued through the 19th century with industry becoming one of its mainstay industries. During World War II, Murfreesboro played an important role as a manufacturing center for munitions production and steel production. After the war ended, economic restructuring took place in Murfreesboro with many businesses closing or being sold off. In recent years, murFreesboro has seen increased development with industrial redevelopment taking place along Interstate 26 and other nearby streets
