Mount Juliet, Tennessee is a small town located in Davidson County, Tennessee. The population was 2,514 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area and is served by the Mount Juliet School District. The first settlers in what would become Mount Juliet were the McKenzies, who came to the area in 1822 from Scotland. They built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as downtown Mount Juliet and started farming. In 1829, David Henderson purchased some land near present-day Mount Juliet and began developing it into a city with lots for sale and housing developments for servants. Henderson named his new city Mount Juliet after himself and his friend, General Andrew Jackson Jr., conqueror of Mexico City. In 1853, Henderson sold much of his property to William Citty and James Witherspoon for $4,500 cash. The two men developed what became known as Riverbend Square which includes parts of downtown today. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down many buildings in Riverbend Square including Henderson's home which he had rebuilt following an attack that year by Union troops under General Ulysses S Grant. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many African Americans moved to rural areas throughout Tennessee because of racism but Mt Juliet remained mostly white until after World War II when more black people arrived to work in industry or join military service. mountjulietthentnpsdanielle

Mount Juliet is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, located on the Cumberland Plateau. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. In 1813, General Andrew Jackson was given land east of Mount Juliet by President James K. Polk in order to build a military road between Chattanooga and Nashville. This road became known as "The Jackson Road." In 1814, General William Logan built a mill there which had an important role in the early development of Mount Juliet. In 1815-16, John Crouch built a large frame house on what is now Main Street that served as the first courthouse in Mount Juliet. In 1830, two brothers named Thornton erected a log cabin on what is now State Route 279 about one mile northeast of present day Mount Juliet for their own use and later sold it to James Dickey for $1,000 in 1840. Dickey used it as his summer home until his death in 1865 when it passed into public ownership and was used as a hotel until 1978 when it closed down and became derelict again. In 1978-1979 it was leased by the Knoxville History Museum who restored it to its current condition and opened it to the public on October 15th of that year. Today, Mount Juliet remains an agricultural community with many small businesses dotting its landscape including restaurants and stores along State Route 279A near where Thornton's cabin once stood; four churches also remain from before 1800: First Presbyterian Church (1830), Second Presbyterian Church (1840), Third Presbyterian Church (1860), and South Baptist church (1910). There are also several smaller schools within walking distance including East Ridge Elementary School (1998) just off SR 279A south of town center; Mountain View Middle School & Infant School adjacent to church; Ivy Hill Elementary School next door north of IH&E Railroad tracks; Jefferson Davis High School across highway immediately west of high school boundary
On July 6, 1815, a group of Tennessee farmers met at Mount Juliet to create the first state in the Union. The following year, on December 15, 1816, Tennessee became a part of the United States.
