Mount Juliet, Tennessee is a small town located in Knox County, Tennessee. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County and the only incorporated municipality in Knox County. The name "Mount Juliet" comes from Mount Juliet, a mountain located about 20 miles (32 km) east of the town center. The first inhabitants of what is now Mount Juliet were Native Americans who traveled to this area for hunting and gathering purposes. The first white person to live in present-day Mount Juliet was James Robertson, who built a cabin on an abandoned plantation nearpresent-day Jackson Lake in 1815. In 1819, Colonel John Sevier purchased land northwest of present-day Mount Juliet and began construction on what would become Sevier State Park. In 1868, local citizens approved the erection of a public schoolhouse within their town limits. That same year saw the opening of Cumberland Coal & Coke Co.'s new mine near present-day Mount Juliet; this Mine opened up major coalmining operations that continued until Minerals Management Corporation closed it down in 1984. In 1907, Carthage Savings Bank became operational within Mount Juliet; it remains one of the oldest banks west of Interstate 65 today. Over time, much development has occurred within and around Mount Juliet; including retail stores such as JCPenney and Sears Roebuck; office buildings such as UTEP's School Office Building (now known as Community Services Administration); and homes which have seen increasing popularity among people seeking rural living experiences outside Nashville or Memphis metropolitan areas during these years. Additionally, many businesses have been relocated to new facilities located throughout downtown since 2000 when the old city hall building was taken over by UTEP's School District #1 as its central office campus - making Mt Juliet one of Tennessee's most vibrant downtown strips today!

It is part of the Clarksville–Montgomery, TN-AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Mount Juliet was John Pillow and his family who arrived from Virginia in 1796. They built a log cabin on the side of a hill that still stands today. Pillow donated land for the town square and erecting the first schoolhouse. The community began to prosper when the railroad came through in 1876. Businesses grew to include grocery stores, car dealerships, banks, hotel rooms and more! In 1916, Mount Juliet became an incorporated village with its own Board of Commissioners. However, by 1960 only 106 people lived there – most of whom were farmers or fishermen. However, during World War II much of what lay within Mount Juliet's boundaries served as training grounds for local soldiers and airmen; including nearby Fort Campbell where over 2 million gallons (8 million L) of oil were spilled during WWII munitions production alone! In 1961 Mount Juliet ceased to be an incorporated village after nearly fifty years while it continued as a unincorporated township governed by a Township Commission with one representative from each business district therein). In 1996 however all township activities were consolidated into one entity called "Mount Juliet Community" under which all residents are now governed by an elected Township Commission made up of residents from each business district located within the municipality PLUS one representative from outside our jurisdiction (i.e., Clarksville). As per current Township Code these areas are: Arts & Entertainment; Education; Finance; Health & Human Services; Homebuilding/Acreage Management/Landscaping/ Parks & Recreation; Roads & Transportation
