Mount Juliet is a small town located in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first settlement in what would become Mount Juliet was made by pioneers near present-day downtown Knoxville on July 24, 1776. The name "Mount Juliet" derived from an early Cherokee name for the bluff above which they built their winter home: "Mt. Hallelujah". In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army rode through the town on their way to battle against Major General James Stokes and his forces at First Battle of Bull Run. During that battle, Jackson's horse got loose and ran into a house in town and he was thrown off his horse before being taken prisoner. He spent several weeks as a captive until he was exchanged with another general and returned to duty. The first store in Mount Juliet opened its doors on December 9, 1818, when Wm Auld opened the first post office here with two clerks and four mail carriers serviceable for only one week each month due to lack of horses available for transportation needed to move goods between towns in Davidson County. A new store was built west of Main Street around 1830 by Jno Pritchard Sr., who also operated a gristmill and log cabin post office there until 1840 when it changed hands several times before it finally closed down after three years because no one could afford to buy postage rates high enough to cover the costs of mailing documents using runners or wagons over long distances from Knoxville. A new store building was erected just east of Main Street (now called Second Street) around 1851 by Isaac Asbury who also operated a millinery shop there until 1865 when he moved his business across Third Street to what is now known as Asbury drugstore where he continued operations until his death in 1916 at age ninety-six years old while still active as one of Knoxville's most prominent citizens during its earliest days as an incorporated village.. A school district formed out of parts of the original Mount Juliet School District was established November 3rd 1892 with buildings designed by local architect George Stephenson with construction starting on October 15th 1893; these buildings are still extant today within walking distance of downtown Knoxville.. A fire destroyed much of downtown Knoxville on February 14th 1909 which limited access to many businesses including most notably Asbury Drugstore but not Mt Juliet Store which reopened soon afterwards despite damage caused by fire

Mount Juliet, Tennessee is a small town located in Pike County, Tennessee. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. The Mount Juliet post office was established in 1817 and closed in 1966. The town was named after Mount Juliet, a mountain in Scotland. The first settler in Mount Juliet was George Washington Kennicott who arrived in 1796. He built a cabin on the mountain and raised chickens and hogs. A Presbyterian congregation was founded here in 1824 and continued to operate until 1960 when it merged with another church to form the Knoxville-based First Presbyterian Church of America. In 1865 General Ulysses S. Grant Battle fought an unsuccessful battle at nearby Hardin Hill during the American Civil War here. In 1868 local businessman John Sevier purchased land east of the village for $2,000 and began building a wood-frame courthouse which would become one of the most prominent landmarks of Mount Juliet. Sevier served as Mayor from 1871-1874 and again from 1896-1901; he also donated land for two schools, one public and one private, which became part of present day North High School and South High School respectively. By 1900 there were only thirty residents living within what is now known as downtown Mount Juliet while 1,500 people lived scattered throughout rural communities east of town on parcels belonging to Mr. Sevier including several miles west of his original location on Shelby Road (now Interstate 24). By 1920 however there were over 5200 residents living within what is now known as downtown Mount Juliet with over 100 businesses employing more than 130 workers including many JCPenney stores that opened their doors during this time period along with other major employers such as Ford Motor Company Chattanooga plant that employed up to 4500 people at its peak during this time period NOTE: All figures are current as published by the Census Bureau website
