When the area of Mount Juliet, Tennessee was first settled, there were few firearms available to the settlers. The first people to live in this area were the Cherokee and Creek Indians. These tribes hunted and gathered natural resources which allowed them to survive. Not long after they arrived, a group of white men came across this land and started to build homes. One of these men was named John Sevier. He had some experience with hunting animals so he decided to build a gunsmith shop on his property. Thisshop became one of the most important businesses in Mount Juliet because it provided handguns for the residents. Sevier also built a church on his property which served as a community center for the townspeople. Soon enough, other families moved into Mount Juliet and began trading goods and services with Sevier’s shop. Eventually, guns began becoming more prevalent in Mount Juliet because these traders needed them for their business ventures. This led to an increase in firearm production in Mount Juliet from just 10 pistols in 1810-1812 to over 100 pistols by 1820-1821! There are many stories about how firearms got into Mount Juliet but all of them share one common denominator: John Sevier made them happen!

Mount Juliet, Tennessee is an unincorporated community located in Searcy County, Tennessee. The name "Mount Juliet" was given to the mountain by General Andrew Jackson on July 20, 1819 as a reward for his victory at the Battle of New Orleans. The community is located at elevation of 4,816 feet (1,500 m). The first European settlers in Mount Juliet were white traders who came from Scotland and England between 1796-1800. They erected stores and homes on the high ground around what is now known as Knoxville Landing. In 1800 they established a post office called Springdale; it was discontinued in 1902 when Springdale became the town of Johnson City. In 1801 General Jackson's forces invaded Tennessee and captured Knoxville Landing. The traders and their families were taken prisoner and brought to Mobile where they were held until 1802 when they were exchanged for General Wayne's force retreating from Mexico during that year's Mexican War. The next year (1802), American forces invaded Mexico again while supplies were being supplied by British traders through Nashville. On July 20th,1819 General Jackson ordered Major James Hogg to lead a detachment of cavalry overland from Nashville to attack two Spanish forts on the mountain near present day Mount Juliet; this expedition was successful and resulted in a Treaty of Peace being signed between America and Spain which ended the war with no casualties on either side.

Mount Juliet was a small, rural town in Tennessee until the early 1800s. It was one of several small towns that were destroyed by the Appalachian Mountains during the 1811-1812 Civil War. The town was located on what is now known as State Route 601, about 10 miles east of Knoxville. The town was founded in 1799 by David Robertson and his family. He named it after Mount Juliet, a mountain in Europe that he had seen while traveling there. The first store in Mount Juliet opened in 1801. In 1810, the Robertson family built a large log cabin for their home and business at the junction of present day State Route 601 and Old Stage Road. Mount Juliet’s population grew rapidly during its early years; by 1815, it had over 100 residents. However, because of the harsh conditions within the mountains, many people soon died from heatstroke or exposure to snow and ice storms during winter months. In 1816, the community erected a stockade around its perimeter to prevent local raiders from entering without permission. In 1830, Congressman James Kenedy introduced legislation that would establish academies for white students in Tennessee; this bill became law shortly thereafter and helped to spawn a new generation of Tennesseans who desired education despite difficult living conditions inside the mountainside communities. By 1840, Mount Juliet had declined significantly in population due to heavy trade with neighboring states surrounding it; however, some residents still managed to maintain an active agricultural economy through raising chickens and pigs as well as manufacturing goods such as candles and cigars from burned cedar wood products grown near their homes). On May 15th 1870 (the date which has been celebrated annually since then as “Mount Juliet Day”), three men—John Dickson (a farmer from nearby Whitesburg), Hiram Thompson (a carpenter from Chattanooga)and William Hinson (a blacksmith)—mounted horseback and rode more than 20 miles acrosscountry to reach Mount Juliet from Henderson County where they were employed building railroads southward into Georgia
Mount Juliet is a town in Greene County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,292 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settler in Mount Juliet was Captain John Sevier who founded what would become called Sevier's Station on July 4, 1796. He named it after his dying father-in-law, James Robertson. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson and his military force camped at Mount Juliet for two weeks during their campaign against the Seminole Indians before moving on to Snake River Crossing just east of town. On November 8, 1814, General Beecher Price attacked and captured Fort Nashborough near present day Mount Juliet while under orders from Jackson to capture all Seminole village sites within three miles (5 km). The fort had been built by Major John Roane around 1800 as an outpost guarding the route between Chattanooga and Knoxville. The Cherokee massacre of 24 Cherokee men and boys occurred on October 14–15, 1813 near present day Mount Juliet when Confederate forces led by Brigadier General Hugh Johnson attacked a small detachment of Cherokeesnestled among hickories about 20 miles (30 km) southeast of Chattanooga under cover of darkness while they were engaged in corn gathering. Eighteen adults and six children were killed including five traders who happened to be accompanying the group: Joseph Cobb (age 15), Wm Hurd (age 16), Robert Neely(age 17), Samuel Maynard(age 19), Moses Rankins(age 22)and James Robertson (aged 25). All but Rankins managed to escape unharmed though many were lost forever with only Cobb remaining unaccounted for until he finally found refuge with friendly Creeks some time later.
