Morristown was a small community in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The community was founded about 1800 by pioneers of the Georgia Railroad. The original town post office was called "Newbern." It was moved to Morristown about 1851. The population of Morristown peaked at about 20 residents in 1860, but declined rapidly thereafter due to factors such as proximity to Chattanooga and other larger towns and the arrival of the railroad. In 1880, Morristown had only 4 residents. By 1920, there were only 2 residents remaining in the community. In 1924, the Morristown School District merged with nearby Lenoir City School District to form the Lenoir-Morgantown Local Schools district. Morristown is now an unincorporated community located within the Lenoir City school district.
