Morristown is an unincorporated community in Saratoga County, Tennessee, United States. The community was established in 1851 as a result of the Morristown Coal and Coke Company's purchase of a tract of land from the Smith family. It remained an agricultural center until after World War II when the area became known for its steel mills.
MORRISTOWN, TENNESSEE - The first settlers in this area were the family of Andrew and Hannah Morriston. They arrived in 1786 and began farming the land that now makes up Morris Township. Andrew Morristown was the son of Humphrey Morriston, who came to America from Scotland in 1753. In 1811, Andrew married Sarah Ball and they had two children: Humphrey and Anna. In 1819,Andrew's brother-in-law James Calhoun bought a tract of land north of Morris township and established what is today Calhoun Heights. By 1830, the Morristown area had a population of about 150 people. On July 4, 1835, Andrew Morriston died at the age of 82 years while living on his farm south of Morris township with his wife Sarah and their two children Humphrey (age 24) and Anna (age 20). Their remains are currently buried at Calhoun Heights Cemetery.
