The first firearms in Morristown were handguns. A man named Johnnie Jenkins Sr. bought a pistol on October 5, 1839, and it is reported that he shot at a white bear the next day. The town's first store, located near the present-day courthouse, was open on November 1, 1839. It is said that Johnnie Jenkins Jr.'s wife helped him with the business. On December 24, 1839, a rifle was auctioned off in Morristown and it is reported that four men bidding against each other received it for $50 cash. On March 4, 1840, James Waddell became the town's first justice of peace and he issued orders authorizing people to carry arms without permits. In 1861 Tennessee passed an act providing for automatic registration of all firearms by state officers when any individual made an application for such registration within thirty days after receiving notice from the state police department of his intent to own or use any firearm in this state. This law took effect on January 1, 1862.
Morristown is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City metropolitan area. Morristown is located on the banks of the Sandy River and is one of the few towns in Tennessee that does not have an incorporated city government. At first it was a small settlement founded by farmers who were looking for a place to homestead after their farmhouse burned down in 1821. By 1825, Morristown had a post office and several stores. During Reconstruction (1865-1913), Morristonians supported various causes such as white supremacy and prohibitionism although most residents were Republican during this time period due to their close proximity to Nashville and its growing black population (which at that point numbered around 25%. The economy changed after World War II with increased mechanization and some families moving out of town; however, many more residents moved into nearby cities such as Johnson City over the years). Afterward, MORRISTOWN experienced growth as both jobs and businesses relocated to the area from other parts of Tennessee thanks to Interstate 265 which connected Morristown with Johnson City and other parts of Southeast Tennessee throughMorrstown Boulevard (). By 2000, MORRISTOWN had reached its current size with 10,000 residentsand had become known for its manufacturing base including plastics products (), paper products (), aluminum products (), food processing () and tire manufacture (). Additionally, MORRISTOWN has seen significant development in recent years due largely to annexation by Johnson City annexed municipalities including Hampton Roads Township () which includes Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (), Mount Pleasant () which includes Allegheny Health System () Medical Center ()) Today MORRISTOWN remains an agricultural community with large concentrations of fruit trees (), hay production (), cattle raising (), poultry production () and retail services (). Residents also continue making use of local schools - East Middle School (); East High School (); Presbyterian Day School (); Presbyterian Training Academy (); Methodist Episcopal Church (); Central Methodist Episcopal Church (); Good Samaritan Hospital ()) The primary economic activity today is manufacturing but there are also sizable portions devoted toascaiculture(), renewable energy generation(), hotel/motel services(), real estate agents/brokers(), retail sales() and light industrial activities(). Morristown is a town in western Tennessee, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. Morristown was founded in 1796 and became an incorporated city in 1853. The town has been named for Colonel John Morris, the founder of the Virginia Company of Linealusters who drilled for oil near what is now Morristown. The first permanent settler in Morristown was James Robertson who arrived with his family from Scotland in 1799. In 1802, Colonel John Morris donated land to build a courthouse and jail which still stands today. For many years, Morristown was one of the most important towns in its rural area due to its strategic location as a transportation node on the Cumberland River and its availability of water resources. However, over time development within the town began to outstrip infrastructure needs and growth outwardly led to problems such as traffic congestion on State Route 601 and rising housing prices which made it difficult for residents to maintain their homes or purchase new ones. In response to these challenges, Mayor Harmon announced plans to create a municipally-owned park that would include a golf course, swimming pool, weight room, library and more. This plan failed to gain much traction but Mayor Harmon kept trying until he came up with another idea that would be instrumental in helping turn Morristown into one of Tennessee's top tourist destinations: creating a historic district that would preservemorriston's rich history while also providing access to education and economic opportunities for residents. Morristown was founded in 1786 by General James Robertson and was the first town in Tennessee. The town was named for General John Morristown, who fought in the French and Indian War. The first store in Morristown opened in 1787. In 1802, the town had a population of 250 people. In 1850, the population of Morristown was 1,500 people and it continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1900 with 2,700 people. morrisstown is currently home to around 1,200 people and is one of the smallest communities in Tennessee
