Morristown is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson–Murfreesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Morristown were traders from Pennsylvania in 1796. The area that would become Morristown was settled by couples of Dutch and English colonists in the early 1800s. The original settlers built log cabins, cleared land for farming and began planting corn and other crops in 1812-1813 when they discovered water resources within their boundaries. By 1830, there were over 400 people living in Morristown. In 1837, General Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land west of Morristown along the same riverbank as new Fort Donelson had been built two years earlier to protect Yankees retreating from Alabama during the Mexican War. When Forrest became Confederate Major General during 1861-1865 he ordered all white men west of Chattanooga to move into newly acquired plantations east of Lookout Mountain so blacks could not own property or serve in Union forces under their colors without surrendered military status; negroes could only work on plantation fields until emancipation came about ten years later much like slaves today are treated in many African American communities across America After being burned down by Union troops during battle at Corinth on November 15th 1863 (the largest city burned by Ulysses S Grant's army), most buildings and equipment inside New Amsterdam were completely destroyed but some items such as cannons and furniture still survive today including a cannonball found lodged inside an old post office building still standing today

Today, Morristown is a small community with few commercial interests outside of agriculture. Its main attractions are its historical landmarks such as The Seviers House and The Post Office Building (both built in 1907).
