On November 3rd, 1845, Morriston voters passed a resolution declaring themselves an independent republic within the United States of America due to dissatisfaction with Great Britain’s role in the Mexican–American War. When Mexico regained its independence from Mexico City on November 20th,1846, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered Santa Anna’s forces to march against Morristown residents who had sided with Mexico. Santa Anna's forces discovered that many of these residents had fled to nearby Chattanooga before he reached them and burned all their homes and stores while looting them—a practice known as “the route kill” because it killed many people by burning them alive rather than capture or capture them alive). Aftermath: The damage done by Santa Anna's forces led to heavy Chatham County taxation during American occupation; this caused much resentment among local citizens who were not able to pay any taxes at all after fleeing British rule two years earlier (Chatham County lines were drawn based primarily upon property ownership). This grievance led eventually to secession movements throughout Knox and Tennessee counties towards self-government during Reconstruction which ultimately failed due insufficient support from outside allies (including Confederate states) during critical times forTennessee economy and black political power growth across entire county... Morristown was founded in 1814 by General James Caldwell as a cotton plantation on the east bank of the Little Tennessee River. The town was reestablished as a village in 1868 and became an incorporated town in 1902. Morristown is located about 26 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Nashville and about 16 miles (25 km) south-southwest of Chattanooga. The first mention of Morristown comes from John Sevier who wrote an account of his travels through Central America in 1785–86 and noted that he passed through "a great number of small towns with many homes built on high ground near by rivers or streams". In 1798, when General James Caldwell moved his army across the Little Tennessee River to defeat Cherokee Chief Muscogee attacks on settlers west of Morganton, he built a cabin there which served as headquarters for several years until he erected a more permanent structure known today as Caldwell House. In 1814, General James Caldwell's cotton plantation became one of the first plantations to be developed along the east side of the Little Tennessee River after being surveyed by Captain David Rossman and named for him by Maj.-Gen Richard Henderson – later First Lieutenant Governor Emeritus of Nashville under Andrew Johnson – after General James' victory over Creek forces at Old Hickory Plantation northeastof Knoxville on December 7th, 1813 during what is now known as the Battle Of Horseshoe Bend. In 1868, when Morristown was reestablished as a village due to this increase in population it had only two homes: One owned by Rufus King and another homeowned by John Witherspoon which were both destroyed around 1900 AD after fire burned throughout much or all of downtown includingbuildings dating back to 1800s! After becoming an incorporated town on April 17th 1902 it had 10 buildings: 5 single family homes (mostly frame houses), 2 churches/synagogues were also established within 100 years; 4 businesses including 3 banks & 1 grocery store; 2 schools operated between 1905-1920 (& later closed); 4 residences were constructed between 1907-1910 but most have been demolished over time including one brick building still standing currently used for storage! In 2000 Morristown had 6 unique businesses: 3 restaurants/cafés & 3 convenience stores however most are now closed down; 1 doctor office; 1 library which has since closed down; 1 post officeclosed circa 1970s Many residents enjoyed playing softball from 1919 thru 1987 with annual games played at Huntington Park Stadium adjacent to High School
