He discovered what would become Morristown when he reached it on July 8th while marching southward from Chattanooga towards Knoxville; at that point, it had only a few hundred residents living within its borders. General Troup spent several days touring the area before settling into one house near where present day Market Street meets Union Boulevard; he left behind instructions forMorristowtodenever leave without giving ample notice so as not to alarm any potential residents about his presence . After finding no suitable locations for stores or farms outside his original march route (due to hilly terrain), General Troup turned back home but instead founded what would become Nashville’s first grocery store two miles east of present day downtown Morristown – this store would later grow into one of America’s most important commercial districts .
