Millington is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The first settler in Millington was James Auld, who arrived in 1797. He and his family were among the earliest settlers on what is now named Old Mill Road. Millington's history dates back to 1815 when General John Sevier built a mill on Bigelow Creek for the purpose of grinding corn and flour. In 1824, Milledton became an agricultural village with a school and Presbyterian church. In 1827, residents voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Milington." The first post office was established in Millington in 1830. The first mayor of Millington was Jesse Hixon from 1835 to 1840; he served consecutive terms until his death in 1849. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General William Tift joined Confederate forces and moved his headquarters from Franklin to Millington where he reformed commandeered cannons from Nashville businesses for use by the Confederate army. After being relieved of duty due to ill health, Tift died at home on April 15, 1865 aged 72 years old.. On October 10th of that year Union troops burned down buildings around town including Mr Hixon's house which still stands today (having been rebuilt). Although it has been replaced by more recent construction material - most notably a Walmart - this original building still remains standing as one of Millington's notable historical landmarks!

Millington is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Millington was founded in 1834 by Captain James Wills and his wife, Anna Prentice Wills. The first school in Millington was built on the current site of the courthouse in 1835. Millington's early history is intertwined with that of its neighboring town, Davidville. In 1824, Captain James Wills bought land near Davidville for $4 per acre (2 hectares). He built a cabin there and named it "Millington." In 1830, he sold his land to John Hays for $10 per acre (4 hectares). By 1833, Millington had a post office and two stores. The first church building in Millington was erected in 1834 by Rev. John Cooksey and dedicated by President Andrew Johnson. A millinery store opened in 1840 on Main Street (now White Street). Another store opened on Academy Road (now Third Avenue) around 1850. In 1860, an insurance company was organized here and three blacksmiths were hired to keep up with demand for insurance service from residents of nearby towns like Nashville and Tennesseville. The area now known as Milledton began to take shape as a community during this time period when families started moving into the area from other parts of Hardin County and surrounding counties such as Murfreesboro and Palestine Springs.. After years of hard work – both agricultural and manufacturing –Captain James Wills died suddenly on October 3rd, 1870 at the age of 73 years old while driving his horse-drawn wagon down Fourth Street towards MilledTON after planting wheat seeds along that stretch of road many times over since he had first arrived here more than 40 years earlier! His widow Anna continued operating their farm until her death in 1911; one son later took over operations when his father passed away some time laterstill running today as an independent family farm business…In 1907 Captains Edmund Dickson, Harry Laddick & Geo Fenton purchased Captains James Wills’ share interest & continue working our property till this very day!Today we are proud to call ourselves “The WILLS FAMILY BUSINESS” descendants still operate today
