Millington is a small town located in Johnson County, Tennessee. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Millington was founded in 1853 by General John C. Milliken and his brothers. The first store in what is now Millington opened on Main Street on October 6, 1853. The town grew rapidly, and by 1860 it had a post office, a school, and several businesses. The milling industry played an important role in Millington's growth during its early years. In 1867, the milling company built the first gristmill in Millington; this mill became one of the most important mills in the community. The mill continued to produce flour until 1972 when it closed down due to lack of customers. Mills also produced tobacco products such as cigars and cigarettes for many years before production stopped altogether in 1992 due to fire damage from Hurricane Andrew (a major event in that year). In recent years, some businesses have reopened including a seafood restaurant called Blue Cat Cove and a business called Jiffy Lube which provides oil change services for cars throughout Johnson County as well as other services such as plumbing and electrical work.
