This pump was used for pumping water out of deep wells until 1901 when electric pumps became available everywhere. The original goal for this line was to bring water from north central Alabama so that it could be distributed through Chattanooga however it eventually served all parts of central Knox County including MilledTON The growth of trucking brought about increased competition for jobs in various sectors such as agriculture so much so that even today many people still farm though electrical equipment has become more common .
